Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala on Sunday, May 29, three days ahead of the schedule, the IMD informed today. According to the IMD, the monsoon was likely to touch Kerala coast on June 1. However, the Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala three days ahead of its normal date.
The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, some parts of south Tamil Nadu, some parts of Gulf of Mannar and some more parts of southwest Bay of Bengal on May 29.
The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Latitude 12°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 12°N/ Long. 70°E, Kannur, Palakkad, Latitude 9°N/ Longitude 79°E, Latitude 8.0°N/ Longitude 83°E, 12.5°N/90°E, 16.0°N/93°E and 18.0°N/94.5°E.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon into some parts of central Arabian Sea, reaming parts of Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of Karnataka, and some more parts of south and Central Bay of Bengal, some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal and northeastern states during next 3 to 4 days,” the IMD stated.
