Bhubaneswar: Conditions are favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon over the next 4 to 5 days, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the latest update, the monsoon is expected to progress and cover some more parts of the Southwest and Southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep Islands, and parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is also likely to advance into additional areas of the West-central, East-central and Northeast Bay of Bengal, along with the remaining parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal.
This development suggests that the Southwest Monsoon is steadily gaining momentum and is expected to bring rainfall to more regions across southern India and the Bay of Bengal in the coming days.
Taking to X, IMD scientist Uma Shanakr Das wrote: “Conditions remain favorable for the southwest monsoon wind to advance further within the next 4-5 days. This will cover some additional areas of the southern-western and southern-eastern Arabian Sea, the Lakshadweep Islands, and parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Similarly, the south-west, west-central, east-central, and north-east regions of the Bay of Bengal, as well as the remaining areas of the south-east Bay of Bengal, are likely to be affected.”
