Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday announced favourable conditions for further advancement of the Southwest monsoon over parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
According to IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, conditions are favourable for further advancement of the Southwest monsoon over some parts of Gujarat, additional parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha during the next 24 hours; and over some parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh during the subsequent three days.
The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, along with heavy rainfall expected at isolated places in the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, and Jagatsinghpur on June 16. Similar conditions are forecast in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, and Malkangiri on the same day.
An ‘Orange’ warning has been issued for June 17, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore districts. ‘Yellow’ warnings for similar weather conditions are also predicted over Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Balangir on June 17 and 18.
Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall with a ‘Yellow’ warning for isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda districts on June 19 and 20.
