Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala’s coast in the next 4-5 days, with weather conditions being favorable for its onset.
According to weather scientist Uma Shankar Das, the monsoon has already entered the Andaman Sea on May 13 and is advancing towards the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Taking to his X handle, he wrote: “Monsoon to hit Kerala! Weather conditions are entirely favorable for the southwest monsoon to reach Kerala’s coast in the next 4-5 days.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted that the monsoon would arrive in India ahead of its scheduled time this year. Typically, the monsoon hits Kerala’s coast around June 1.
The monsoon is expected to enter Odisha in the second week of June. With the monsoon arriving early this year, it is likely to bring much-needed relief to the country from the scorching heat.
