Sambalpur: In a shocking incident, a woman and her son reportedly committed suicide in their house at Tangarpali under Ainthapali police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Jyotsnarani Das and her son Sudheer Panda. Jyotsnarani was a teacher at the Gambharkanta school, while Sudheer is married and has a girl child. On the day of the incident, his wife and child were away at his in-law’s place. The reason behind the suicide is yet to be known.
According to reports, neighbours detected a foul smell from the victims’ room and informed the police. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and seized the bodies, which were hanging from the ceiling. The bodies were sent for post-mortem.
Locals said that they did not notice any abnormality in the family and expressed shock over the death of the mother-son duo.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to ascertain the reason behind the mother-son taking the extreme step in life.
As the news of the deaths spread, a pall of gloom descended on the area.
