Khordha: Nirakarpur Police on Saturday busted a well-organised motorcycle theft and disposal racket that was operating across Khordha district and its adjoining areas. In a major breakthrough, five persons were arrested in connection with the case, including the principal accused, several receivers of stolen vehicles, and a scrap dealer involved in dismantling and disposing of the motorcycles.
Police said the racket was engaged in stealing motorcycles from different locations and systematically disposing of them by dismantling the vehicles and selling the parts. Acting on specific intelligence, Nirakarpur Police launched a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of a large cache of stolen property.
During the operation, the police seized 15 stolen motorcycles, five mobile phones used by the accused, and dismantled, cut and broken parts of several stolen two-wheelers.
Police sources said further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the racket, identify additional members, and trace the source and destination of the stolen motorcycles. Officials are also examining whether the gang had links to similar theft cases reported in neighbouring districts.
