Bhubaneswar: Two persons including a woman, who had jumped into Kathajodi river from Trisulia bridge on Friday evening, have been found alive on Saturday.
The duo appeared before the Purighat police today much to the surprise of Fire department personnel who have left no stone unturned to trace them since Friday evening.
As per sources, Pradyumna Lenka and Barsha Lenka, who are brother-in-law and sister-in-law in relation, had placed their mobile phones and Aadhaar cards on the bridge before jumping into the river. Locals who witnessed the incident alerted the concerned authorities, who soon launched a frantic search operation for the duo but failed to rescue them on Friday.
Barsha and Pradymna surprised everybody after they voluntarily surrendered before the Purighat police station on Saturday. Police later took the duo to City Hospital for a medical check-up.
According to sources, Barsha and Pradyumna stated that they had spent the entire night stranded in the river. However, a fire officer expressed scepticism about their claim, stating, “We launched a rescue operation yesterday and continued searching this morning after receiving reports of two people jumping into the Kathajodi River. It’s hard to believe they could survive the strong river currents on their own.”
Till the last report came, Barsha and Pradumna had undergone a medical examination. However, the reason behind their attempt to jump into the river is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, police launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
