Bhubaneswar: Visitors and animal lovers will get to see four new animal species at the Nandankanan zoo from December 29 as the city zoological park has brought four new members of two different species including a pair of wallaby and Livingstone’s turaco.
Wallaby, a middle-sized marsupial mammals belonging to the kangaroo family and Livingstone’s turaco, a species of bird in the family Musophagidae have been brought from a private farm in Hyderabad. The animals have been kept in quarantine in the special enclosure of the zoo.
The new guests will be shifted to new enclosures once the animals get acquainted with the local environment. Still then, they will remain under the observation of veterinary experts. Visitors will get access to see the new animals from the foundation day of the Nandankanan (December 29).
In a related development, the PCCF (wildlife) Susanta Nanda announced that the zoo will remain open on December 25 (Monday) which is a holiday. The decision has been taken in view of public demand.
