Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park has recorded a significant addition to its Asiatic lion population with the birth of two cubs to lioness Maya.
As per reports, the cubs were born from Maya’s first pregnancy after she mated with lion Shibam. The birth marks an important milestone for the breeding programme of the endangered Asiatic lions at the zoo. Both Shibam and Maya are pure Asiatic lions and were themselves born to lioness Rewa. With the arrival of Maya’s two newborns, the total number of lions at Nandankanan has risen to 24.
Lioness Maya and her two newborn cubs at Nandankanan Zoological Park are currently healthy, according to zoo sources. The zoo authorities are providing dedicated care to the newborns and are closely monitoring their safety and overall health.
