Bhubaneswar: A jail warder was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside government staff quarters located within the Jharpada Jail campus here on Friday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Sarathi Pradhan, a warder posted at the Nayagarh Jail.
According to officials, Pradhan’s body was found hanging inside the government quarters where his family resides on the Jharpada Jail premises. The matter came to light after family members and nearby residents noticed the incident and alerted the authorities.
Police soon reached the spot and initiated a preliminary investigation. Though Pradhan was serving at Nayagarh Jail, his family had been staying in the staff quarters inside the Jharpada Jail campus in the state capital.
The body was later sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police said the circumstances leading to the alleged suicide are yet to be established. A detailed investigation has been launched and family members as well as colleagues are being questioned to determine the reason behind the incident.
