Bhubaneswar: A total of 92,699 persons have been detected with cancer in Odisha in the last three years (2019-20 to 2021-22) informed Health & Family Welfare Minister Naba Kisore Das.
Replying to a query from Salipur BJD legislator Prasanta Behera in the Odisha Assembly today, the Minister said that a total of 31,692 cancer patients from the State succumbed to the disease during the same period (2019-20 to 2021-22).
Informing on steps taken by the State government for providing better treatment to cancer patients, Das said that number of beds has been increased for in-patients at Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack in addition to starting cancer surgery facilities.
This apart, work has already started for establishing 11 high-quality cancer detection and treatment centres in the State under the Odisha Comprehensive Cancer Care Programme, he added.
He further said that process has also started for establishing a 120-bedded cancer treatment at Jharsuguda in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
Cancer patients are being provided Chemotherapy at district headquarters hospitals in 32 places through trained doctors and nurses at Day Care Chemotherapy Centres, he added.
