Bhubaneswar: A 60-year-old man was brutally hacked to death by his neighbour over a dispute involving a pet mongoose under Kabisuryanagar police station area in Ganjam district.
The deceased has been identified as Krushna Chandra Mohanty, a resident of Patharapalli village under Kabisuryanagar police station. The accused, Narayan Das, is reportedly absconding after the incident.
According to reports, the dispute began on Friday when Narayan’s pet mongoose allegedly entered Mohanty’s house and ate some chicken. Mohanty had asked Narayan to keep the mongoose tied which led to a heated argument between the two.
The situation escalated on Saturday morning when the mongoose allegedly re-entered Mohanty’s house, sparking another confrontation. In a fit of rage, Das allegedly attacked Mohanty with a sword, decapitating him on the spot.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are searching for the accused.
