Bhubaneswar: A newborn baby discarded on the roadside by a woman and picked up by another in the vicinity of Acharya Vihar, Bhubaneswar, was rescued by Childline with the help of police on Wednesday.

Reportedly, an unsuspecting mother or woman, arrived in an autorickshaw and discarded the newborn baby girl on the roadside. Another woman, arriving in a separate autorickshaw, picked the abandoned infant and left the scene.

On getting information, the Childline team rushed to the location and immediately contacted Saheed Nagar Police Station. The auto rickshaw number was swiftly collected and a search was launched to know the whereabouts of the newborn.

Their efforts led them to Akhandalamani Basti, where they successfully located and rescued the baby. The police handed over the baby to the care of Childline. The infant was then admitted to Capital Hospital.

Following the rescue, Childline presented the baby before the Additional Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further assistance and protection. In response to the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at Saheed Nagar Police Station.
