Raurkela: A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in a drain near Sitapada in Udit Nagar here and was rescued alive by local residents on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the infant was allegedly placed inside a bag and thrown into the drain. Some local residents noticed the baby and immediately rescued him before informing the police.
Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and shifted the newborn to Raurkela Government Hospital, where he was admitted for medical care.
The baby reportedly survived despite the heavy rainfall in the area.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the person responsible for abandoning the infant.
