Bhubaneswar: The body of a newborn girl was found in bushes near busy Rasulgarh square under Mancheswar police limits in the Capital city on Thursday.

The body of the newborn was found wrapped in a gunny bag. Locals noticed the bag lying in the bush. Raising doubt over the abandoned bag, they alerted the police who reached the spot and examined the bag.

Police seized the body and sent it to Capital hospital post-mortem.

The identity of the parents of the newborn has not yet been established. Police suspect that the infant was born to an unmarried girl who abandoned her after delivery.

The body of the baby is believed to be only a few hours old.

Police are trying to find who abandoned the newborn’s body.
