Bhubaneswar:  A newborn baby died allegedly due to negligence by hospital staff at the District Headquarters Hospital in Kandhamal district recently.

Alleging negligence on the part of doctors and nurses, the family of the deceased newborn filed a written complaint with the Phulbani Town Police demanding action against the responsible doctors and nurses.

According to the complaint, Anil Behera’s wife was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after experiencing labour pains. She was left to writhe in labour pain till Monday. The doctor on duty had asked Anil to take his wife to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Instead, the doctor later advised Anil to bring some medicines. However, while taking his wife to the maternity ward, the baby was born and fell to the ground, resulting in the newborn’s death.

The family alleged that the doctors and nurses on duty were negligent and irresponsible, leading to the tragic incident.

The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Dr Santosh Kumar Padhi, has ordered an investigation into the matter, assuring that those found guilty will face severe punishment.
