Newlywed Ends Life

Bhubaneswar: A newlywed woman allegedly took her own life due to domestic violence and dowry demands by her husband in Swain Sahi under Mahakalpara police limits in Kendrapara district.

The deceased has been identified as Priyambada Swain. She had married Jyotiranjan Bhola, a resident of Garajanga village in Palasingha Panchayat, Kendrapara block, on July 12, 2023. The couple had been residing in Hyderabad due to job.

According to reports, Priyambada’s parents alleged that she was subjected to torture by her husband over dowry demands and was forced to consider divorce. This led to her taking the extreme step.

Priyambada’s mother Banalata Swain, alleged, “My daughter was forced to endure physical and emotional abuse. Her husband demanded divorce and dowry, and even asked her to marry another woman he was in a relationship with.”

“My daughter was also working, and after marriage, she transferred her job to Hyderabad. However, her husband continued to torture her. She would call me, but I advised her not to worry,” said Priyambada’s father Narendra Kumar Swain.
