Bhubaneswar: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalized tenders for the much-awaited Capital Region Ring Road project in Odisha, marking a major step forward in enhancing connectivity around Bhubaneswar.

The ambitious 111-km, six-lane access-controlled greenfield ring road (also known as the Bhubaneswar Bypass) will connect Rameshwar in Khurda district to Tangi in Cuttack district. The project, executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), carries an estimated total cost of Rs 8,307 crore.

NHAI has selected the lowest bidders (L1) for the three construction packages:

Package-1 (Rameshwar to Bilipada, approximately 40.7 km): Patel Infrastructure Limited – Bid value: Rs 1,238.79 crore

Package-2 (Bilipada to Gobindpur, details align with segment): VRC Constructions (India) Limited – Bid value: Rs 1,192.24 crore

Package-3 (Gobindpur to Tangi, approximately 40.33 km): HG Infra Engineering Limited – Bid value: Rs 1,582.11 crore (against NHAI’s estimate of Rs 1,827.33 crore for this package)

Land acquisition for the entire project is complete, and all required clearances—including forest, wildlife, and environmental approvals from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change—have been secured. The ring road is designed to significantly ease traffic congestion on the busy NH-16, which currently passes through Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas, by diverting through and inter-city traffic. It is expected to improve overall connectivity, reduce travel times, and support economic growth in the capital region.
