Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday took cognisance of the case involving Tikhiri sarpanch Chameli Ojha and sought a detailed report from local authorities.
The Commission has issued notices to the Kendrapara district administration, directing both the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit reports on the incident.
The NHRC stressed the need for a fair and comprehensive investigation into the allegations and circumstances of the case. As per the directions, district authorities have been asked to complete the inquiry and submit a detailed report within 15 days. The Commission has also sought an Action Taken Report, asking officials to furnish details of steps taken in response to the matter within two weeks.
The NHRC’s intervention has brought fresh attention to the case and is expected to speed up the investigation. The move signals the Commission’s concern over the issues raised in the complaint and its intent to ensure accountability through an independent review of the facts.
