Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience intense winter chill this year as the night temperature is dropping rapidly across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the night/minimum temperature will drop further in the next 24 hours.
Six places recorded below 10°C yesterday night. The places included Rourkela (7°C), Jharsuguda (8°C), Daringibadi, Phulbani, Keonjhar (9.5°C) and Sundargarh (9.7°C).
While there has been a dip in the night temperature across the state from Wednesday, the weather office has predicted that the minimum temperature is likely to drop by 2°C to 3°C on Thursday. As per the weather forecast, the minimum temperature is likely to be 10°C in Rourkela and Keonjhar on January 2. Similarly, Phulbani and Sundargarh are likely to experience 9°C, Baripada and Angul 11°C. The minimum temperature in Cuttack is likely to be 14°C, while Bhubaneswar is likely to record 15°C or less on Thursday.
However, the weather department has predicted that the temperature will increase from January 3.
Shallow to dense fog will occur in different parts of the state during the next two days. The regional weather center has issued a yellow warning for dense fog in Kandhamal and Angul districts. Light to moderate fog will occur in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi and Nayagarh.
At the same time, the weather office has forecast light rainfall in most districts of coastal Odisha and Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Boudh, Sonepur.
