Bhubaneswar: The stretch between Banarpal and Angul on NH 55 is a nightmare for people travelling on this road. One of the arterial highways connecting Cuttack with Sambalpur, the five-kilometer stretch between Banarpal and Angul is a road, for namesake.
The conditions become unspeakable during monsoons. Today, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra convened a meeting with senior officials of the NHAI, Angul district administration and local leadership.
Angul MLA Rajnikant Singh and Works Secretary VV Yadav were also present on the occasion. Reviewing the ground situation shared by Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain, Mahapatra directed NHAI officials to start the repair works immediately.
“Keep the road in good condition for smooth movement of the traffic and expedite construction of Angul City bypass road of NHAI,” he said. CGM, NHAI, Ram Chandra Panda assured that repair and maintenance works would be taken up on war footing.
Mahapatra directed the district administration to provide all necessary support for the purpose. Among others, Engineer in Chief Manoranjan Mishra, and OSD to Chief Secretary Dillip Routrai were present. Swain attended the meeting over video conference.
