Niramaya Centre In Baragada Under Scanner For Giving Expired Antibiotic To Minor

Bhubaneswar: A serious complaint has been raised against the Niramaya medicine counter operating at the Community Health Centre in Baragada after a 15-year-old boy was allegedly given an expired antibiotic.

As per allegations, Mukesh Sahu (15), son of Choban Sahu from Nilibandha Pada, had suffered a cut injury on his finger. After examining him, the doctor prescribed the antibiotic Cefpodoxime Proxetil and directed the family to collect it from the Niramaya medicine centre at the hospital.

The family claims that the medicine handed over to them had already crossed its expiry date in May 2026. Shortly after taking the tablet, Mukesh reportedly developed dizziness and started vomiting. On checking the medicine strip, the parents discovered that the product was past its validity period.

The incident has sparked questions over whether proper monitoring and quality checks are being carried out for drugs supplied under the Niramaya scheme.

The boy’s family has sought a detailed investigation into the matter and demanded action against those found responsible.

Health department officials had not issued any official statement by the time this report was filed.
