NIT Rourkela And Odisha Mining Corporation Partner For Capacity Building And Innovation

Bhubaneswar: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. (OMC) to collaborate on capacity building, technical upskilling, and managerial development of OMC professionals. The partnership aims to support joint research, innovation, digitisation, and operational optimisation initiatives.

The MoU was signed by NIT Rourkela Director Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao and OMC Director (HR) Mr. Alok Kumar Pal. Prof. Himanshu Bhushan Sahu, Dean (Alumni, Industry and International Relations at NITR), coordinated the collaboration.

Under the MoU, NIT Rourkela will support OMC professionals through leadership development programmes, workshops, and customised Management Development Programmes (MDPs). The collaboration will integrate emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, geostatistics, and mine automation to optimise mining operations.

A three-day Continuous Professional Development Programme on “Mineral Resource Management: Technical, Regulatory and Strategic Insights” was held at NIT Rourkela from February 12, 2026, organised jointly by the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and the Department of Mining Engineering. The programme provided intensive training on technical, regulatory, and strategic dimensions of mineral resource management.

Prof. Sk Md Equeenuddin and Prof. Himanshu Bhushan Sahu coordinated the course. This partnership is expected to enhance the skills of OMC professionals and drive innovation in the mining sector.
