Rourkela: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela on Monday hosted a career seminar to connect its students with representatives of Japanese technology companies and explore international career and internship opportunities.
The “Career Seminar: Global South-Japan Tech Talent Internship 2026” was organised by the Career Development Centre (CDC), NIT Rourkela, in association with Global South-Japan Tech Talent Internship (GS-JTI), Deloitte Tohmatsu and Tech Japan.
Senior representatives from Deloitte Tohmatsu, Tech Japan, NanoFrontier, Ridgeworks, GustoDevelopment, Nichi-In Software Solutions, MiDriq NbS, KH Industry and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) participated in the programme.
The inaugural session was attended by NIT Rourkela Director Prof K Umamaheshwar Rao, Registrar Rohan Dhiman, deans, heads of departments and faculty members.
Addressing the visiting delegation, Rao highlighted the institute’s multidisciplinary academic environment and its focus on preparing students for the changing requirements of industry.
He emphasised the need for students to develop skills alongside academic knowledge and have greater flexibility to pursue diverse academic and career pathways.
“We do not want our students to be limited to academic credentials alone. Alongside academic knowledge, they should acquire the skills that are needed in this era. Our effort is to provide students with opportunities to learn across disciplines and develop capabilities that industry values,” Rao said.
Prof Surajit Das, Head of the Career Development Centre, said the engagement would provide students with an opportunity to understand career prospects with Japanese companies while allowing industry representatives to interact with NIT Rourkela students.
“This engagement provides an important platform for our students to understand career opportunities with Japanese companies and for industry representatives to experience the talent and capabilities of NIT Rourkela. We look forward to building stronger and sustained India-Japan academic and industry connections through such initiatives,” Das said.
The programme included company presentations, an institute presentation and an interaction with the NIT Rourkela leadership.
The visiting delegation also visited the campus and laboratories of the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry.
The visits provided the representatives an opportunity to understand the institute’s academic and research facilities.
The afternoon session featured presentations on the GS-JTI programme, career opportunities with Japanese companies and the Talendy platform, followed by interactions with students.
A round-table interaction was also organised across seven classrooms, enabling representatives of the participating companies to directly engage with NIT Rourkela students.
The seminar focused on strengthening industry-academia links between India and Japan and providing students with opportunities to explore international internships and careers with Japanese companies.
