Bhubaneswar: As part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign, NIT Rourkela organized a cleanliness drive under the initiative for Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Garbage Vulnerable Points.
The drive was conducted at a garbage dumping site near the NIT Rourkela campus, which had been identified as a Garbage Vulnerable Point. With the enthusiastic participation of around 40 members of the NIT Rourkela community, including students, staff and faculty members, the area was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
A large volume of accumulated waste was collected during the drive and transported to the authorized garbage disposal site with the help of a tractor.
The initiative reflects NIT Rourkela’s strong commitment to promoting cleanliness, environmental responsibility and community participation beyond the campus boundaries.
Officials said that such drives aim to transform dirty spots into clean spaces and reiterated that clean surroundings are a collective responsibility.
It is pertinent to mention that to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s Jayanti on October 2, Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 is being observed from September 17 to October 2 to promote cleanliness, voluntarism, and collective action for a Swachh and Viksit Bharat.
