Bhubaneswar: No blackbuck casualties have been reported amid the severe flood situation in Odisha’s Ganjam district, with the animals swept away by strong currents managing to cross the river and reach a nearby forest area safely, officials said.
According to an official statement issued by the Odisha Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department on Friday, reports had been circulating about blackbucks being swept away by floodwaters following the severe flooding in southern Odisha.
The statement clarified that although some blackbucks were carried away by the strong currents, they managed to cross the river and reach the forest area.
Citing reports from the concerned Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs), the department said no blackbuck deaths had been reported in the incident and all the animals were safe.
The clarification came amid concerns over the impact of flooding on wildlife in the region.
The authorities have not reported any blackbuck casualties in connection with the incident, the statement added.
