Bhubaneswar: The current flood situation in Odisha is under control, with water levels in major rivers below the danger mark, informed the Water Resources Department Chief Engineer Chandrasekhar Padhi.
Amid flood concerns, Chief Engineer Padhi stated “The water level in Hirakud is rising after the opening of the Kalama gate. Tomorrow, six gates will be opened after puja, and the decision to release floodwater will be taken based on the water levels in the Ib and other rivers. Currently, there is no flood situation in Odisha as the water level is below the danger mark.”
He further said “The situation at Rengali is being closely monitored. In southern Odisha, the water level of the Rushikulya River at Purusottampur is 5 meters below the danger mark, and the Bansadhara River’s water level is low. Also, the Indravati reservoir is currently filled to only 30% capacity. The IMD’s forecast of no heavy rainfall in the next week has provided some relief, but the authorities remain vigilant and are keeping a close eye on the flood situation.”
