Anugola: The Health and Family Welfare Department on Sunday urged people in Anugola not to panic or harbour unnecessary concerns over the recently reported cases of scrub typhus in the district, stating that the initial reports were based on rapid diagnostic kit tests and were not confirmatory.
According to the Directorate of Public Health, the cases initially reported as positive through rapid testing are now being subjected to confirmatory testing through the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method.
In the first phase of confirmation, all nine individuals who had tested positive through rapid tests were subsequently found negative in the confirmatory ELISA tests. The remaining samples are currently being validated through confirmatory testing.
The Health Department is closely monitoring the situation, with the district health team already deployed to the affected area to assess the situation and ensure appropriate medical care.
All necessary precautionary and preventive measures have also been initiated promptly. These include active surveillance and other public health interventions aimed at preventing the spread of the disease and safeguarding public health.
The department said the situation remains under continuous monitoring and assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the health and safety of people in the district.
