Sambalpur: Union Tribal Affairs Minister and Sundargarh MP Jual Oram on Saturday indicated that he may step away from electoral politics, citing the need to pave the way for younger leadership. However, he clarified that he remains committed to the BJP and would reconsider his decision if directed by the party.
“I have served as an MP eight times and as an MLA twice. I have no personal interest in contesting again. It is time the youth are given a chance,” Oram told reporters after attending a ‘Rozgar Mela’ at Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur. “But if the party instructs me, I will honour that and contest,” he added.
The senior BJP leader emphasised that the event was part of a nationwide employment drive conducted across 47 locations, where over 51,000 appointment letters were distributed. In Sambalpur, 45 youths received job offers—35 in the Railway Department and 10 in the Postal Department.
Highlighting the government’s focus on employment and economic development, Oram said, “The Rozgar Mela is not just about jobs; it is about nation-building. We are committed to making India a self-reliant nation—‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.”
Referring to India’s defence manufacturing growth, he noted that initiatives like ‘Operation Sindoor’ exclusively used indigenous tools and the country has now begun exporting defence equipment.
Oram also expressed optimism about India’s economic progress.
“India became the world’s fourth-largest economy in 2025. We are working tirelessly to reach the third position,” he said, adding that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the goal is to make India a fully developed nation—‘Viksit Bharat’—by 2047, the centenary of independence.
Reaffirming his allegiance to the party, Oram stated, “I will never leave the BJP. Whether or not I contest elections, I will continue working for the organisation.”
