Bhubaneswar: Sambalpur district administration has restricted any kind of religious procession during Muharram celebration in the city.

It was informed by the IG of police Himansu Lal after chairing a meeting with various stakeholders including Muharram committee and representatives of Hindu community.

However, people can celebrate the festival in their own locality, the IG said.

“There will be no religious procession during Muharram in Sambalpur city this year. It was decided that people can celebrate the festival in their respective localities,” Lal said after the meeting.

Last year, the administration had banned such processions during Hanuman Jayanti following clash between two communities.
