No Respite From Rainfall Activity In Odisha Till Aug 14; Mayurbhanj Issued Red Alert For Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilting southwards with height, continues to persist. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

These systems are expected to bring significant rainfall activity over Odisha in the coming days, prompting a series of colour-coded warnings.

For August 8, the regional weather office has issued a Red Warning for Mayurbhanj district predicting extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places is very likely over the district. Besides, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kataka, Sundaragada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Gajapati and Ganjam. These districts have been issued Orange Alert.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Nuapada, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada on August 8. These districts have been issued yellow alerts. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching 30-40 kmph is also very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

An Orange Warning has been issued for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj on August 9. These districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over these districts.

Also, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. These districts are under yellow alert.

For August 10, a Yellow Warning has been issued for heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over the districts of Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

A Yellow Warning continues for August 11, with thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind of 30-40 kmph very likely at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

Similar conditions are expected on August 12.  Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. These districts have been issued yellow alert.

For August 13, no specific warnings have been issued for this date.

On August 14, a Yellow Warning has been issued for heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.

The IMD advised residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel in low-lying areas, and follow official updates as the weather systems evolve.
