No Respite From Thunderstorm Activity Till May 20: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange and yellow warning for several districts in Odisha, predicting moderate to light thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and strong winds accompanied by light to moderate rain till May 20.

Below is a date-wise weather prediction:

May 17: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50- 60 kmph is likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh. These districts have been issued an orange warning.

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi and Dhenkanal.

Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balangir, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Deogarh.

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh and Malkangiri.

May 18: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada. These districts have been issued orange warnings.

Moreover, thunderstorms with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak and Sundargarh.

May 19: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph is likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati.

May 20: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Koraput and Rayagada.
