Puri: An unregistered habisyali intending to stay in Puri during the holy month of Kartik fell unconscious outside Brundabati Ashram on Friday after spending a night on the streets due to lack of accommodation.
As per reports, the 12th-century shrine in Puri usually witnesses a large footfall of habisyalis who observe Radha Damodara Brata also known as Kartika Brata during the holy month. The habisyali, a resident of Bari area in Jajpur district, was among many who had arrived in the pilgrim city to observe the month-long Kartik Brata.
Despite the state government’s announcement to provide accommodation facilities for habisyalis during the registration process, many were left stranded. The registration process was supposed to continue for five days, but the portal was shut down on the second day.
The abrupt closure of the registration portal has sparked chaos, leaving habisyalis stranded. Finding no other go, they launched a protest outside the Brundaban Ashram on Thursday. Several habisyalis, including the unconscious one, have been forced to spend the night on the streets on Thursday night.
