Bhubaneswar: Animal lovers will soon get an opportunity to see wildlife species and the scenic beauty of the forest during the night in Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary in Bhubaneswar.
Odisha Forest Department has planned to launch first-of-its kind ‘nocturnal trail’ in the Bharatpur section of the sanctuary from January 29, informed PCCF (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda.
The programme will be helpful for students and researchers to a great extent, he said.
Nature and animal lovers will also get to know more about local plants and wildlife during nighttime. Those who don’t have time during the day can take advantage of the new initiative.
People can see several wildlife species including elephants, barking deer, porcupines, and boar in the sanctuary at night.
People are getting the forest safari in Bharatpur and Godibari sections during the daytime. Now, the department has planned to send two safari vehicles into the forest per hour from Bharatpur side.
The tourists can enjoy the night safari till 9 pm. It will remain closed from 9pm to 9.30 am, Nanda said.
The department will take adequate precautions to ensure that wild animals are not disturbed due to the trail.
The trail will cover a major part of the sanctuary on the Bharatpur side.
