Nayagarh: A powerful Nor’wester (Kalbaisakhi) lashed Nayagarh district on Monday, uprooting roadside trees, damaging roads, and blowing away the 35-foot-tall wooden Ravana sculpture that was to be the centerpiece of the famous Daspalla ‘Lanka Podi Yatra’.
The festival, scheduled for Monday night, faced severe disruption as strong winds and heavy rainfall wreaked havoc across the region.
The middle head of the towering Ravana idol was completely destroyed, while the light gate built for the event also suffered extensive damage.
Local roads were blocked due to fallen trees, leaving commuters stranded and forcing authorities to rush in for clearance operations. Firefighters and local volunteers worked tirelessly to restore access and ensure safety.
