Bhubaneswar: The Rajya Sabha Secretariat issued the notification for the Upper House of the Indian parliament on Tuesday. By-election for the Rajya Sabha will be held for six seats that fell vacant in four states including Odisha on December 20.
One seat has fallen vacant in the Rajya Sabha after the resignation of former BJD MP Sujeet Kumar.
While the by-election for Rajya Sabha will be held on December 20, the last date for filing nominations is December 10. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on December 11 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is December 13.
In terms of the number in the Assembly, the Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha is expected go to the BJP. Now, speculation is rife as to who the BJP will nominate for the Rajya Sabha. It remains to be seen whether the BJP will send Sujeet Kumar to the Rajya Sabha like Mamata Banerjee or field someone else.
It is worth mentioning here that Sujeet Kumar resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership on September 6. He also resigned from the BJD and joined the BJP.
