Dhenkanal: A notorious criminal was injured in a police encounter in the Mangalpur forest area of Dhenkanal district. Debashish Behera, alias Handa, known as the ‘King of Forest’, sustained bullet injuries to his leg during the exchange of fire with the Dhenkanal Sadar police on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the police had been tracking Handa since he was spotted in the Kankadpala area. A police team finally cornered him in the Mangalpur forest, leading to an encounter. Handa sustained serious bullet injuries to his leg during the exchange of fire.
He was initially taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Dhenkanal for treatment and later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, for further treatment.
Notably, the police operation was carried out after receiving specific information about Handa’s presence in the area.
