Puri: Notorious criminal Pinu alias Pinaki Baral has been injured following an encounter with the police in Puri today.
After nabbing Baral police have admitted him to the district headquarters hospital here for treatment.
Acting on intelligence input that Baral armed with a firearm along with an accomplice were coming to Puri to commit multiple armed robberies, a team of policemen led by Baseli Sahi IIC Manas Barik raided the Sankheswar jungle behind the Loknath Temple.
Baral exchanged fire with the police team and was nabbed with a bleeding injury on his left leg, according to a press note issued by Puri Police.
One pistol and two rounds of live ammunition have been seized from the spot, the press note added.
Sub Inspector (SI) B Majhi of Baseli Sahi police station received minor injuries during the exchange of fire, the press note said.
According to the press note Baral is involved in more than 11 criminal cases including attempt to murder, assault, robbery and extortion.
