Notorious Criminal Injured In Police Encounter In Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A notorious criminal, Mohammad Samad, was injured in police firing during an encounter in the Dhanupali area of Sambalpur in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Samad, who was wanted in a murder case and had multiple cases registered against him in various police stations, was shot in the left leg and is currently admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in serious condition.

According to police, accused Md Samad and his brother Md Wasim of Motijharan brutally attacked and killed Asfaq Khan by stabbing, and thereafter fled from the spot. A case was registered at Dhanupali police station based on the written report of Jabij Khan, the brother of deceased.

The encounter took place in Khandual under Dhanupali police station. Another accused, Mohammad Wasim, fled the scene. The police had fired two rounds in the air during the encounter.

The police have seized one 7.6 mm pistol and one black Apache motorcycle from the crime scene.
