Keonjhar: In a late-night police encounter, notorious criminal Prabhat Mallick was seriously injured in a police encounter near Mahuladihia forest under Sadar police station limits in Keonjhar district.
According to reports, Mallick, who had been absconding for a long time and had created significant terror in the Keonjhar region, was taken by a police team for interrogation and recovery of looted money in a robbery case from Bauripada forest. During the operation, Mallick tried to deceive the police and attempted to flee. He allegedly fired at the police team using a hidden gun. In retaliation, the police opened fire, injuring Mallick seriously.
The injured criminal was immediately rushed to Keonjhar Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Police recovered a gun and Rs 12,000 in cash from his possession.
It is learnt that Mallick is a history-sheeter with more than 40 criminal cases registered against him in various police stations.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
