Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Tuesday issued an alert for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in seven districts of Odisha.
The places that are like to receive heavy rains and thunderstorms in the next three hours include Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, and Nayagarh.
Collectors of these districts have been put on alert, while people have been advised to take precautionary measures to avoid being affected by lightning and thunderstorms.
While the temperature dropped significantly in Bhubaneswar and adjoining regions after overnight showers, the regional office of the IMDhere has issued heat wave warnings for several districts of Odisha for today.
Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions is very likely at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Bolangir districts. The Meteorological Centre has issued an orange Warning for these districts.
Similarly, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam and Jajpur.
On the other hand, the Cyclone Biporjoy has intensified in the Arabian Sea leading the IMD to issue a red warning for all the districts of Gujarat.
Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh, and Morbi could experience stormy weather with wind speeds of 125-135 kmph gusting to 145 kmph on Thursday evening.
Fishing activities along the south and north coasts of Gujarat have been suspended and authorities were evacuating people in districts by the sea in view of Cyclone Biparjoy.
