Bhubaneswar: The District Magistrate of Cuttack has imposed the National Security Act (NSA), 1980 against two brothers from Jhadeswarpur village under Bhadreswar Police Station limits in the district.
Duttatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, District Magistrate, Cuttack, has ordered the detention of Jyoti Prakash Praharaj alias Jepi and Bapi alias Jyoti Samrat Praharaj, under Section 3(2) of the NSA.
The action was taken on the recommendation of the Superintendent of Police, Cuttack.
The proposals against Praharaj brothers were submitted by the SP through separate letters.
The District Magistrate was empowered to exercise these powers by the Government of Odisha Home (Special Section) Department
In both cases, the District Magistrate stated that he was fully satisfied that the detention of the two brothers was necessary to prevent them from acting in any manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
Both brothers are currently lodged in judicial custody at Circle Jail, Cuttack at Choudwar in connection with Bhadreswar police station case.
They have been charged under Sections 115(2), 109(1), 296, 351(3), 3(5) of BNS read with Sections 3(1)(i)(r)(s) and 3(2)(va) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The District Magistrate has directed that both Jyoti Prakash Praharaj and Bapi alias Jyoti Samrat Praharaj be detained in Circle Jail, Cuttack at Choudwar until further orders.
