Bhubaneswar: The state government has approved an outreach centre of the National School of Drama (NSD) in Bhubaneswar. This centre will provide top-notch training for students pursuing careers in theatre and acting.

The centre will temporarily be housed at the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre in Bhubaneswar.

Calling it a landmark decision, Minister Suryabanshi highlighted its potential to elevate regional narratives and traditional drama forms.

The outreach centre will provide a platform for aspiring artists to hone their skills in theatre and acting, showcasing Odisha’s rich cultural heritage on both national and international stages.

The establishment of the outreach centre follows discussions between Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

The National School of Drama (NSD) has a rich history, dating back to its establishment in Delhi in 1959. Over the years, NSD has nurtured the talents of many prominent artists, including notable Odia actors like Bijay Mohanty, Ajit Das, and Surya Mohanty. Its impressive alumni list also boasts of names like Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, and Irrfan Khan, who have made significant contributions to Indian cinema and theatre.
