Cuttack: The Additional Chief Engineer of the Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation (OBCC), Pradeep Kumar Rath, has been placed under suspension on charges of corruption and amassing disproportionate assets.
Rath was arrested by the Vigilance Department on August 6 for allegedly accumulating properties worth over Rs 10 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income. A special Vigilance court has remanded him to judicial custody until August 17.
Following his arrest and ongoing investigation, the Works Department has suspended Rath. Additionally, his headquarters have been fixed at the office of Engineer (Civil) in Bhubaneswar until further order.
During his suspension, Rath is prohibited from leaving his headquarters without prior permission from the Chief Engineer (Civil) in Bhubaneswar.
This move comes as the state government adopts a strict zero-tolerance policy against corruption, vowing to take action against officials involved in corruption.
