Bhubaneswar: Amit Rohidas, the sole representative of Odisha in the Indian men’s hockey team, returned home to a hero’s welcome today after securing a medal at the Paris Olympics.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi honoured him at Lok Seva Bhavan, praising his achievements and calling him the “pride of Odisha.”
Amit’s remarkable journey from Saunamara village in Sundergarh, known as the “cradle of hockey,” to the Indian hockey team has inspired countless young athletes. The Chief Minister noted that Amit’s success is a testament to his dedication and hard work, saying, “Amit is the true identity of Odia Asmita. He has brought our Odia pride to the world stage.”
The Chief Minister expressed hope that India will win the gold medal in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, thanks to the good wishes of the people of Odisha and the blessings of Mahaprabhu Sri Jagannath. He also announced the extension of Odisha’s sponsorship of the Indian hockey team till 2036.
Amit Rohidas expressed his excitement to return to Odisha and meet the Chief Minister. He highlighted the Indian hockey team’s historic achievement, saying, “After 52 years, we have broken the record by winning consecutive medals in Olympics.” He thanked the sports fans of Odisha and the country for their support.
As a token of appreciation, Amit gifted the Chief Minister an Olympics jersey and mascot, signed by all members of the Indian team. The Chief Minister said this jersey will inspire Odisha’s hockey players to strive for excellence.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Suresh Pujari, Prithviraj Harichandan, Nityanand Gond, Sampad Swain, and others.
