Odisha Approves 152 Super Specialty Faculty Posts Across Govt Medical Colleges

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to strengthen super specialty healthcare services in the state, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department on Thursday approved 152 posts of Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Senior Residents across various government medical colleges.

The newly sanctioned posts will be created in super specialty departments, including Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, and Hematology, with the aim of enhancing specialist healthcare and medical education in government-run institutions.

According to the Health Department, the approved posts will be distributed across several medical colleges and hospitals. Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar will receive faculty and senior resident positions in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.

Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada, Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, and Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore have each been allotted posts in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, and Nephrology.

MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, has been sanctioned posts for the Department of Hematology, while VIMSAR, Burla, has received approvals for Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery and Surgical Gastroenterology. SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, has been allotted posts for the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.

Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital, Talcher, will have new posts in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Plastic Surgery, while Shri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital, Puri, has received approvals for Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and all posts in the Department of Plastic Surgery.

The sanctioned positions include Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Senior Residents in the respective departments.

The Health Department said the recruitment would strengthen specialist healthcare services and make quality medical treatment more accessible across government hospitals and health institutions in the state.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality treatment under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. He expressed confidence that the addition of human resources would further enhance healthcare delivery in the state.

The department also highlighted its recent recruitment drive, stating that 5,197 Medical Officers and paramedical staff have been appointed over the past two years. In addition, approvals have been granted for the recruitment of 5,989 Nursing Officers, 240 Radiographers, 1,108 Pharmacist Officers, 238 Ophthalmic Officers, and 380 Medical Laboratory Technicians.
