Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned until 11:30 am today amid chaos over key issues, including the safety of women and the reservation for SC/ST and OBC rights in the state.
Opposition legislators from Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) disrupted the proceedings by protesting near the Speaker’s podium.
The uproar began as soon as the Question Hour commenced, with Congress members rushing to the Speaker’s podium and playing traditional musical instruments. Despite repeated requests from the Speaker to return to their seats, the lawmakers refused to comply.
The Congress party continued its protest, demanding the formation of a House committee to address women’s security in Odisha. Meanwhile, the BJD called for 27% reservation for SC/ST and OBC students in medical education.
The disturbance caused by the opposition prevented the House from conducting its regular business. Consequently, Speaker Padhy adjourned the proceedings until 11:30 am.
