Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned until 4 PM on Monday after the Congress moved a breach of privilege notice against Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The Congress moved the breach of privilege notice against CM Majhi for announcing a 10% reservation for Agniveers from the state in all uniformed services outside the Assembly during the ongoing Budget session.
Senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati said, “How right was it for the Chief Minister to announce out of the House while the assembly session is ongoing?”
Adding to this, he said, “When the CM was in opposition, he brought breach of privilege notices against two ministers. How can he himself violate the rules?”
Similarly, BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallik targeted the Chief Minister, saying, “Did the Chief Minister discuss the with the Home, Finance, and AG departments, before making the announcement regarding Agniveers?”
Mallik has also demanded an apology from CM Majhi for breaking the rules of the house.
On the other hand, BJP leader and MLA from Bhatli, Irasis Acharya, countered the Congress, saying, “Did Congress consult with the Speaker of the House before bringing the breach of privilege notice?”
Acharya added, “Before coming into the assembly, I witnessed various media houses reporting that the opposition was about to bring a breach of privilege in the house. Based on this, I have also moved a breach of privilege notice against the Congress for disclosing affairs of the House outside, without the consent of the Speaker.”
Meanwhile, opposition members from Congress protested and came to the centre of the House, raising slogans.
As per reports, following the ruckus made by the representatives of the opposition parties, the Speaker first announced the adjournment of the house for 20 minutes, later adjourning the House until 4 PM.
