Bhubaneswar:  The Odisha Assembly’s budget session on Wednesday was marred by intense protests from opposition parties, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress.

Legislators from both parties disrupted the House proceedings, forcing Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn the House until 4 pm.

As per reports, the Odisha Assembly’s budget session witnessed chaos on Wednesday as BJD lawmakers protested against the ruling BJP’s alleged plan to restructure Mission Shakti executive committees.

The BJD members staged a walkout and held a dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises.

BJD MLAs alleged that there is no need to restructure Mission Shakti executive committees. Mission Shakti members have been protesting at Master Canteen Square for a long time. However, the BJP government has failed to address their demands.

“Mission Shakti women do not belong to any political parties. They are providing service only. So the government should cooperate with them and address their issues”, alleged BJD MLA Arun Sahu.

On the other hand, Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati led a protest near the Speaker’s podium, demanding justice for women in the state.
