Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned twice today amid protests by opposition BJD and Congress MLAs demanding Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling’s resignation following a fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital that claimed 13 lives.
The Assembly was first adjourned till 4 pm. Opposition members shouted slogans and staged a walkout, alleging negligence. When it reconvened, protests continued, with some MLAs trying to climb onto the Speaker’s podium.
Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo appealed for calm, urging opposition members to participate in discussions. The session has been adjourned for the day with no business transacted.
“When we were in opposition, we too protested but didn’t stall House proceedings. This session is crucial for the people. I appeal to BJD and Congress MLAs to join discussions,” said Singh Deo.
